Miguel Cotto

Miguel Cotto is a well-recognized professional Puerto Rican boxer. He was born on October 29th of 1980 and is the younger brother of another professional boxer Jose Miguel Cotto. Miguel Cotto is a renowned four-time world boxing champion of 3 weight divisions which are the Light Welterweight, Welterweight, and Light Middleweight divisions.

He started his professional boxing career on September of 2004 where he faced a Brazilian boxer Kelson Pinto for the WBO Light Welterweight title who was at that time vacant. Cotto dominated the fight by knocking down his opponent for three times thus having him won the fight by knock out.

On December of the same year, he had a boxing fight with Randall Bailey and defended his boxing title by knocking down Bailey at the 6th round. After his victorious fight with Bailey, Cotto’s boxing performance was described by most boxing enthusiasts as accurate and fast. Eleven days after Cotto’s match with Bailey, he was awarded as the “Puerto Rico’s Fighter of the Year for 2004” by the Puerto Rican Boxing Commission. The following year, Miguel Cotto had another title defense match which was held on February 26th in his home town Puerto Rico.

In June of 2005, Miguel Cotto had a bout with Mohamed Abdulaev – a former Uzbekistan Olympic Gold Medalist. Their fight during June 2005 was not however their first fight. They had a bout at the 2000 Sydney Olympics where Abdulaev eliminated Cotto at the fight round. Hence, during their meet as a professional boxer, Cotto proved that he had improved over the years and had thus defeated Abdulaev. He retained his Welterweight Championship title.


 
On September 24th of 2005, Cotto defended his boxing title for the 3rd time. His opponent for that match was the Columbian Boxing champ Ricardo Torres. At the end of the fight, Cotto garnered a 7th round knockout win.
 
In late 2006, Cotto decided to move up to welterweight. His first opponent was Carlos Quintana which was a out for the WBA Championship title. The bout for the vacant WBA welterweight title was held on December 2nd from which Cotto won via TKO at the 5th round. The following year, he had a victorious title defense fights with TKO wins against boxers Oktay Urkal and Zab Judah.
 
In 2007, one of the biggest boxing events that took place was during the Cotto – Mosley boxing fight. It took place on late November at Madison Square Garden. Cotto dominated the fight with a unanimous decision.
 
Miguel Cottto suffered his first professional defeat in July of 2006 with Antonio Margarito. After Cotto-Margarito fight, Miguel Cotto had a series of other fights with other great boxers.
 
He later on had a fight with Filipino Boxing Champion Manny Pacquiao with the catch weight of 145pounds and having the world welterweight title up on hand. The most anticipated boxing match happened in November of 2009 where Pacquiao defeated Cotto via TKO at the 12th round and thus dethroning the Puerto Rican Boxing Champ from his WBO Welterweight Championship.
 
After Cotto’s fight with Pacquiao, he decided to move into light middleweight and on June of 2010, he defeated Yuri Foreman thus garnering the WBA Light Middleweight Championship title.
 
In March of 2011 Cotto defended his WBA light middleweight title from Ricardo Mayorga via TKO. And on December of the same year, he had a rematch with Antonio Margarito from which he won the fight via TKO at the 10th round.

Vitali Klitschko

Vitali Klitschko is a professional Ukrainian Heavyweight boxer who currently holds the WBC heavyweight champion. He was born on July 19th of 1971 by the complete name of Vitaliy Volodymyrovych Klychko. He was nicknamed in boxing as Dr. Ironfist.

Klitschko is the leader of the UDAR of Vitaliy Klychko political party and likewise a member of the Congress of the Council of Europe – Ukrainian delegation. He was a former WBO and WBC boxing champion. He was not only a world boxing champion, Klitschko also holds a Ph. D. in Sports Science, thus making him the first professional boxer to have a Ph.D. in the history of boxing.

Vitali Klitschko was awarded of the “Federal Cross of Merit” by Germany because of his distinct and various accomplishments attained. The Federal Cross of Merit is actually the highest award for any civilian.


 
In 2005, Vitali Klitschko announced his retirement from the boxing industry and during that time had just finished undergoing a knee surgery. Giovani Segura

Giovani Segura is a professional Mexican Flyweight boxer. He is well recognized also by his boxing nickname El Guerrero Azteca which means “The Aztec Warrior“. He was born in Ciudad Altamirano in Guerrero, Mexico on April 1st of 1982. Segura is currently the Light Flyweight Boxing Champion and was also rated as the pound-for-pound rank number 9 boxer of the world by The Ring Magazine.

During his amateur career in boxing, Giovani Segura made a record of 38 wins over his 40 amateur bouts. He won mostly of his 38 wins by knockouts and only had 0 loses during his entire amateur career. Segura stated that his lost was only because of speed. He started hi amateur boxing career at the age of 15 years old.

He debuted from his professional career on March 28th of 2003 from which he garnered a boxing record of 18 wins, 0 losses, and 1 draw. His wins included bouts against boxing champions Carlos Tamara, and as well as former boxing champion Daniel Reyes. Giovanni Segura had also challenged the Columbian boxing champion César Canchila for the title of the Interim WBA Light Flyweight championship but lost to a unanimous decision. Segura and Canchila recently had a rematch from which Segura won the Interim WBA Flyweight title on March 14th of 2009.

In June of the same year, Segura elevated from his boxing career by becoming a full boxing champion. He also defended his title the following month by beating Juanito Rubillar in just 6 rounds. In August 28th of 2010, Segura had a bout with the undefeated WBO Light Flyweight boxer champ Iván Calderón for a unification bout. He successfully unified his WBA title after knocked-out the Puerto Rican WBO boxing champion Calderón in the 8th round of their bout. His following fight was also a success after he stopped his challenger former boxing champ Manuel Vargas on the 7th round, thus defending his title.
 
Giovanni Segura and Iván Calderón had a rematch on April of 2011. Hence, during the rematch, Segura proved to have dominated the fight by knocking out Calderón during the 3rd round of the rematch fight. After his victories as a Light Flyweight Boxing Champ, Segura decided to vacate his titles to upgrade to the Flyweight division.

Wladimir Klitschko is a professional Ukrainian boxer at the Heavy weight Division. He is currently the WBA, WBO, IBF, IBO, and The Ring magazine Boxing Champ. Wladimir Klitschko is the younger brother of the retired Ukranian Boxing Champ Vitali Klitschko.

Wladimir Klitschko was born on March 25th of 1976, and currently he is the longest to reign in the Heavyweight Championship title of the International Boxing Federation, WBO, and IBO. As of 2011, Klitschko was rated by “Boxrec” as rank #2 pound-for-pound of the world and was rated by The Ring Magazine as rank 6th pound-for-pound boxer of the world. He was also considered as one of the boxers who land the hardest punches in the boxing history.

Wladimir Klitschko was born in Semey, Kazakhstan but later on moved with his brother to Beverly Hills, California United States. He finished his Pereyaslay-Khmelnistsky Pedagogical Institute in Ukraine and was later on accepted in a study program for post graduates at the Kiev University. In 2001, Klitschko was awarded his Ph.D. in Sport Science. He can also speak five languages which are Russian, German, Polish, Ukrainian, and English. During the early times of his career, he opted to use his name’s German translation – Wladimir.


 
Wladimir began his amateur career in 1993, where he won the Heavyweight title at the Junior European Championship. He turned professional in boxing industry and made a record of 24 fights – all wins in a row. He garnered his first world title in 2000 where he fought against an American Boxer Chris Byrd. He won the WBO Heavyweight Championship during that fight.
 
Despite Wladimir’s impressive bouts and wins, he also suffered some losses. And in 2004, Wladimir fought again to regain his WBO championship title against Lamon Brewster. During the start of the bout, Wladimir dominated the fight; however his legs had gone unsteady on the later part of the bouts from which the referee decided to stop the fight for Wladimir’s safety.
 
After his failure from Brewster, he went back to victory in the heavyweight division by defeating DaVarryl Williamson through a technical fight decision, he knockout Eliseo Castillo who was an undefeated champion, he also challenged to fight the undefeated Nigerian boxing champ Samuel Peter. Klitschko’s fight with Peter was remarkable, showing the power punches of two great hard-puncher boxers. But despite Peter’s power punches, Klitschko proved that he was a better and harder puncher than Peter and thus dominated and won their fight.
 
Wladimir Klitschko had many fights following his win with the IBF title and currently holds a boxing record of 56 wins over 59 fights, 49 of those wins were knockouts.

Timothy Ray Bradley Jr. is an American Light Welterweight boxer. He currently holds the WBO World Welter weight Champion Title and has been rated as number 2 in the Light Welterweight division next to Amir Khan. Bradley was born on August 29th of 1983 at Cathedral City, California USA. He was nicknamed on the ring as “Desert Storm” and currently has 29 fights. Twenty-eight of which are wins of 12 knockouts, 0 losses, 0 draws, and 1 no contests.

Timothy Bradley debuted on his first professional boxing career by knocking out his opponent Francisco Martinez by the second round during their fight last August 20th of 2004. He garnered the WBC Junior Welterweight title after he defeated the British slugger Junior Witter on their fight which was held in England.

In 2009, Bradley had a bout with Kendall Holt which was to unify their WBC and WBO Championship titles. Despite receiving hard punches from the WBO Champion, Bradley won the bout through a unanimous decision and thus became the WBO champion. A few days after he fought and won Kendal Holt, Bradley was stripped by his WBC light welterweight title for his failure to respond to his mandatory fight with Devon Alexander. After his fight with Alexander, Bradley was given the option to choose whoever he wanted to fight with and receive a $1.3 million pay. Andre Ward is American WBA Super Middleweight Boxing Champion. He was born on February 23rd of 1984 in San Francisco, California, United States. He was often called the nickname “S.O.G.” which means “Son of God“. Ward was also considered as one of the best pound for pound fighter of the world.

He was generally appraised as 6th in Yahoo! Sports, 7th in Sports Illustrated, and 10th in The Ring Magazine. In 2004, Ward garnered a Gold Medal at the Summer Olympics.

Andre Ward was basically inspired by his father Frank Ward to pursue to the boxing industry. Carl Froch is an English professional boxer who was rated best in super middleweight. Froch was born on July 2nd of 1977 in Nottingham, England. He was named as a two-time and prevailing WBC super middleweight champ. He was the former title holder of the Super Middleweight Champion Title of the Commonwealth, British, and English titles.

At the age of nine, Carl Froch already started playing boxing at their home in Nottingham, England. During his amateur boxing career, he had acquired in 1999 and in 2001 two ABA middleweight titles. Bernard Hopkins is a professional American boxer. He was born on January 15th of 1965 with the full name of Bernard Humphrey Hopkins Jr. in Pennsylvania. He is quite popular with the nicknames B-Hop and the Executioner.

Currently, Hopkins is the Light Heavyweight Champion of both the Ring Magazine and likewise the WBC. Juan Manuel Marquez

Juan Manuel Marquez is a professional Mexican boxer who is quite well-recognized by his championship title in a three-time weight division where he acclaimed 6 world titles in these classes. He was born August 23rd of 1973 on Distrito Federal, Mexico.

In his amateur career, Marquez made a record of 35-1. It also includes of his two wins at the Golden Glove Tournament.

The Mexican boxer began his professional boxing career on May 29th of 1993 at the age of 19. He was given the boxing nickname of “Dinamita” which means “Dynamite“. He had his first title bout with a boxing veteran Manuel Medina from which he won the title on the later rounds. He also defeated Derrick Gainer on the same year, from which he became the “Super Champion” through unifying the WBA and the IBF.

In 2004, Marquez had a bout with the Filipino boxing fighter Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao. It was the Fight of the Year and many of the boxing enthusiasts and fans debated who deserved to win the fight. Hence, the officials proclaimed it a draw.

Sergio Gabriel Martinez is a professional Argentine boxer. He was born on February 21st of 1975 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He was popularly called with the nickname “Maravillia” which means “Wonder“.

Currently, Martinez is The Ring’s Middleweight champion, with formerly being an undefeated WBC and WBO Champion in the Middleweight division. He is also an owner of a WBC Diamond Belt.

In his previous professional boxing career, he actively participated in Light Middleweight Division and has held the World titles for WBC Latino and Interim WBC Light Middleweight championships.

Martinez is rated as rank number 3 best pound for pound fighter of the world by many of the sports news websites, boxing websites, and likewise Magazines such as The Ring, ESPN, Sports Illustrated, and Yahoo Sports. After having a quite low opponent stat in his homeland, Martinez decided to look for an opponent overseas. He traveled to United States during 2000 and had a bout with Antonio Margarito in Las Vegas. After his loss in the United States, Martinez returned to Argentina and won 8 fights during a mere time span from April 2000 up to February 2002.
 
In 2008, Martinez won his fight from Alex Bunema in an 8-round retirement and thus handling him the Interim WBC Light Middleweight title. In 2009, he fought Paul Williams in a non-title Middleweight but lost his fight in a close-score winning bout. He remained in the Middleweight division and challenged the World Champion Kelly Pavlik. They had a bout in April of 2010 from which Martinez won his fight from Pavlik in a unanimous decision. Following his victory from Pavlik, Martinez had another fight on November. It was a rematch with Paul Williams from which he won the fight this time.
