Wladimir Klitschko

Wladimir Klitschko is a professional Ukrainian boxer at the Heavy weight Division. He is currently the WBA, WBO, IBF, IBO, and The Ring magazine Boxing Champ. Wladimir Klitschko is the younger brother of the retired Ukranian Boxing Champ Vitali Klitschko.

Wladimir Klitschko was born on March 25th of 1976, and currently he is the longest to reign in the Heavyweight Championship title of the International Boxing Federation, WBO, and IBO. As of 2011, Klitschko was rated by “Boxrec” as rank #2 pound-for-pound of the world and was rated by The Ring Magazine as rank 6th pound-for-pound boxer of the world. He was also considered as one of the boxers who land the hardest punches in the boxing history.

Wladimir Klitschko was born in Semey, Kazakhstan but later on moved with his brother to Beverly Hills, California United States. He finished his Pereyaslay-Khmelnistsky Pedagogical Institute in Ukraine and was later on accepted in a study program for post graduates at the Kiev University. In 2001, Klitschko was awarded his Ph.D. in Sport Science. He can also speak five languages which are Russian, German, Polish, Ukrainian, and English. During the early times of his career, he opted to use his name’s German translation – Wladimir.


 
Wladimir began his amateur career in 1993, where he won the Heavyweight title at the Junior European Championship. The following year, he landed 2nd place on the Junior World Championship which was held in Turkey. He won a gold medal in 1995 at the Military Championships which was held in Italy. He had a couple more amateur fights after that from which he made a record of 134 wins over 6 losses. Wladimir was named as “The Steel Hammer” or “Dr. Steel Hammer“.
 
He turned professional in boxing industry and made a record of 24 fights – all wins in a row. He garnered his first world title in 2000 where he fought against an American Boxer Chris Byrd. He won the WBO Heavyweight Championship during that fight.
 
Despite Wladimir’s impressive bouts and wins, he also suffered some losses. And in 2004, Wladimir fought again to regain his WBO championship title against Lamon Brewster. During the start of the bout, Wladimir dominated the fight; however his legs had gone unsteady on the later part of the bouts from which the referee decided to stop the fight for Wladimir’s safety.
 
After his failure from Brewster, he went back to victory in the heavyweight division by defeating DaVarryl Williamson through a technical fight decision, he knockout Eliseo Castillo who was an undefeated champion, he also challenged to fight the undefeated Nigerian boxing champ Samuel Peter. Klitschko’s fight with Peter was remarkable, showing the power punches of two great hard-puncher boxers. But despite Peter’s power punches, Klitschko proved that he was a better and harder puncher than Peter and thus dominated and won their fight.
 
Wladimir Klitschko had many fights following his win with the IBF title and currently holds a boxing record of 56 wins over 59 fights, 49 of those wins were knockouts.

Juan Manuel Marquez

Juan Manuel Marquez

Juan Manuel Marquez is a professional Mexican boxer who is quite well-recognized by his championship title in a three-time weight division where he acclaimed 6 world titles in these classes. He was born August 23rd of 1973 on Distrito Federal, Mexico.

In his amateur career, Marquez made a record of 35-1. It also includes of his two wins at the Golden Glove Tournament.

The Mexican boxer began his professional boxing career on May 29th of 1993 at the age of 19. He was given the boxing nickname of “Dinamita” which means “Dynamite“. He had his first title bout with a boxing veteran Manuel Medina from which he won the title on the later rounds. He also defeated Derrick Gainer on the same year, from which he became the “Super Champion” through unifying the WBA and the IBF.

In 2004, Marquez had a bout with the Filipino boxing fighter Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao. It was the Fight of the Year and many of the boxing enthusiasts and fans debated who deserved to win the fight. Hence, the officials proclaimed it a draw.

Juan Manuel Marquez also had a fight with one of the greatest featherweight slugger Chris John on 2006 in Indonesia. However, the Mexican boxer loss the bout with Chris John through a unanimous decision.


 
Later in 2006, Marquez gained the WBO Interim Featherweight title by defeating Terdak Jandaeng – a Thailander boxer. He also defended his title from the Filipino fighter Jimrex Jaca in a 9-round KO in Texas. This made Marquez to upgrade in the full status of a champion and thus made him a three-time Boxing Champ in the featherweight division.
 
He won Super Featherweight title from the 3-weight division world champ Marco Antonio Barrera and had won one title defense from the young aspiring Rocky Juarez.
 
Marquez and Pacquiao had another bout on 2008. And although both boxers fought in an evenly-matched fight, Pacquiao gained the disputed split decision won.
 
The Mexican boxer then upgraded again to a higher weight class and won his 3rd weight title division by defeating another world champion Joel Casamayor in an 11-round fight.
 
Marquez’s thirsts in boxing continued as he moved up again to another weight class division where he fought Floyd Mayweather Jr. Hence, Marquez lost to a unanimous decision.
 
In November of 2011, Juan Manuel Marquez had another fight with the pound for pound Filipino Boxing Champ Manny Pacquiao. The officials declared Pacquiao as the winner of the bout as he had more punches landed on Marquez, although there had been many speculations that Marquez could have won the fight.

Joe Frazier

Joe Frazier

Joseph William Frazier or widely known as Joe Frazier is an American Heavyweight Boxing Champion during 1965 to 1981. He is also nicknamed as “Smokin Joe” by boxing enthusiasts and fans. He was born on January 12th of 1944 and is the 12th child of parents Rubin and Dolly Frazier in South Carolina.

Smokin’ Joe is an Olympic Gold Medalist and prides for being an Undisputed World Heavyweight Boxing Champion. He was recognized as one of the toughest fighters in the history of boxing whose only lost were with guys of World class boxing Champs also such as George Foreman and Muhammad Ali.

The start of Frazier’s professional boxing career was after he won the 1964 Gold Medal for the Olympic Boxing with trainer and manager Yancey Durham. His professional debut was during 1965 with a technical Knockout of his opponent in the first round. In that same year, Frazier also won 3 consecutive bouts, all by knockouts and none of those fights had ever gone past the 3rd round.


 
After his bouts during 1965, Frazier had many more fights which most of them were by knockouts. In March of 1971, Frazier had a match with Muhammad Ali, which was forecast as the “Fight of the Century“. It was basically one of the most anticipated boxing fights of the century where all eyes and ears were watching who of the two greatest boxing fighters in the history of boxing would win the legendary match. Frazier at that time was just 27 while Ali was 29 and was at the stage of come-back from a three-year absence. It was undeniable that Ali was a great threat to Frazier and so Frazier did his homework and together with coach Eddie Futch, they developed a strategy to counter part Ali. The strategy somehow went well and Frazier won the match with Ali.
 
In 1972, he defeated Terry Daniels and Ron Stander with all knockouts and thus defending his title twice.
However, in 1973, Frazier lost his unbeatable record of 29 wins to 0 loss with George Foreman in Kingston, Jamaica. Despite the fact that it was Frazier who was favoured to win that bout, Foreman took him hard to steal the title.
 
Frazier continued his boxing career knocking out many boxers such as Jimmy Ellis, Jerry Quarry, and Joe Bugner, but he was never able to defeat Ali and Foreman during the rematches that they had.
 
After his knockout with Foreman in 1976, Frazier retired from his boxing career and entered a couple of industries such as music, media, and coaching careers.
 
Joe Frazier died with liver cancer on November 7, 2011 at the age of 67. He was up until now remembered as one of the most remarkable boxers of fighting skills that can never be seen again.

Joe Louis

Joseph Louis Barrow is an American Boxer, born on May 13th of 1914 in Lafayette located in Alabama. He is widely recognized as Joe Louis and the Brown Bomber. He was an American Icon and owned the title for Heavyweight Boxing Champion of the World during 1937 up to 1949. Nobody can beat him during his reign. He was even the very first African American to garner an honour with the same level as of a national hero in United States. Joe Louis was considered as one of the greatest boxers in the heavyweight division in the history of boxing. He established a reputation of being a honest, strong-willed and hardworking boxer during the time where sports were dominated by unlikely interests of gambling.

Louis’s family suffered a lot of depression due to unfortunate events that they have gone through. When his family moved to Detroit, Louis started to spend his time at a local youth recreation center located also in Detroit at 637 Brewster Street. It was also said that he tried to hide his boxing aspirations from his mother by placing his boxing gloves inside a violin case.

His first debut as a boxer, although still amateur, was during 1932 as he became a light heavyweight boxer at the mere age of 17. Legends also tell that the reason why he was called Joe Louis and not having included his last name “Barrow” was because of his being less literate. He wrote his name largely that his last name was not able to fit in the space. “Joe Louis” was clearly a reminder for him of his boxing career.


 
Joe Louis won many amateur boxing bouts and thus later on won the club championship of Brewster Street Recreation Center. Brewster Street Recreation Center is also said to be the home of aspiring Golden Gloves Boxing champs. Louis won the light heavyweight Novice Division Golden Gloves championship of the Detroit area. He beat Joe Biskey for the title; hence he lost afterwards to championship for the Chicago Golden Gloves Tournament.
 
The following year, Joe Louis proved himself by winning the Open Division of the Golden Gloves and likewise the Chicago Tournament of Champions. At the end of his amateur boxing career, Joe Louis was able to make a record of 50 wins of 43 knockouts and just 4 lost.
 
As a professional, the Brown Bomber, showcased his boxing talent by maintaining to be undefeated in his fight while only acquiring one legitimate loss which was with a German named Max Schmeling.
 
Joe Louis was considered by most boxing enthusiasts as a symbol of the national pride most especially by African American. During the time where there is widely racial inequality, Joe Louis proved to everybody that he was larger than boxing itself. Joe Louis was forced to continue fighting to pay for his debt. And although he had difficulty, he still won some of his fight because of his unbeatable skill. Hence, he experienced a very terrible knockout lost to the starter Rocky Marciano. Nonetheless, he was still regarded as one of the greatest boxer and will forever be remembered as a patriotic boxer named Joe Louis.

Jack Johnson

Jack Johnson

John Arthur Johnson or most widely known as Jack Johnson was considered as one of the greatest American boxers of all time. Johnson was also the first world Heavy Weight Boxing Champion who is an African American. He was noted as the most notoriously famous African American in his reign, which was about 13 years ranging from 1908 up to 1915.

Johnson was born on March 31st of 1878 in Galveston, Texas. He was the first son of former slaves Henry Johnson and Tina Johnson, who had Coromantins ancestry from the Gold Coast.

He was the very first African American Heavyweight champion who was able to secure a spot on about any top ten listing. He was the most audacious boxer before Roy Jones Jr. and Muhammad Ali. Johnson was able to retain his title for over 10 years and was quite well-known to have humiliated his opponents. He loved to mock almost all his opponents and has angered the white Americans with his antic “in your face” signature. One of the ways that he does to embarrass his opponents is by not having them knocked out easily so he could continuously beat them up. And although the press has a lot of negative comments about him, he proved his worth by being undefeated. Though it was noted also by some journalists that he was for more than a decade, the most well-known and least-liked African American ever lived.

He is also considered as one of the greatest boxers of all time because of his unique boxing style which made it had for his opponents to put up a punch on him. His move was unpredictable. He is undeniably large yet he has light feet which made it him hard to be punched by challengers and thus made him invincible.


 
Johnson’s big break to victory was when he fought the white American James J. Jeffries who was at that time still undefeated. Johnson’s fight with Jeffries was one of the most awaited boxing fights in the history of boxing and was thus called “The Fight of the Century“. Jeffries who was then already retired from boxing came back from the profession to prove that a white man is far better than a Negro. Johnson’s challenger, Jeffries went back from the top training to regain his boxing shape, endurance, and speed, but still he lost from Johnson’s unpredictable moves. During the fight, it was pretty obvious who Johnson’s overwhelmed Jeffries. And before Jeffries can be knocked out, his team threw the white towel to stop the fight. From that moment on, the critics who were discriminating and discrediting Johnson became silent.
 
Although Johnson has a spectacular boxing career, his love life on the other hand was a bit rough on the edges. He was married three times and all on to white women. This situation caused additional controversy to his life. In addition, his first wife Etta Terry Duryea committed suicide after how many times of being beaten and has suffered from depression. His second wife Lucille Cameron divorced Johnson for infidelity. His third and last wife was Irene Pineau. When Irene was asked by a reporter of what was it that she loved about Johnson, she replied that Johnson was a man who was not afraid of anything.
 
Jack Johnson has a record of 73 Wins – 40 of them were Knocked Out, 13 Lost, and 9 Draws. He was basically the greatest Heavyweight Champion of his generation.

Julio Cesar Chavez is a Mexican boxing star legend. He was born in Sonora, Mexico on July 12, 1962. Like other boxing stars, Chavez came from a poor family. He has four brothers and 5 sisters. His father was a railroad worker and his mother did chores like washing and ironing clothes to earn money. The family stayed in an old railroad car. This was what inspired Julio Cesar Chavez to excel in his boxing career.

He started his professional boxing career at the age of 17. He had a memorable fight against Miguel Ruiz in 1981, where Ruiz was first proclaimed as the winner. After further deliberation, the boxing commission finally declared Chavez as the winner. Ruiz was his 12th contender.

The very first world boxing title that he attained was the WBC super featherweight title. He got the title from Mario Martinez on September 13, 1984. Their match was held at the Grand Olympic Auditorium in California. He was able to defend the WBC super featherweight title with a match against Ruben Castillo by a six round knockout on 1985.

Julio Cesar Chavez also defeated boxing stars like Roger Mayweather, Rocky Lockridge, Juan Laporte and Francisco Tomas Da Cruz from 1985 to 1987. He was able to defend the world title he got from Mario Martinez nine times.


 
At the end of the year 1987, boxing star Julio Cesar Chavez decided to pursue the lightweight division. The boxer who had the WBA lightweight title was Edwin Rosario of Puerto Rico. It was a tough match for Chavez, but he succeeded and won by technical knockout during the eleventh round of the match. The results showed that Chavez made majority of the powerful punches towards his contender. He became the WBA lightweight champion.
 
The following year, he had a match won against Rodolfo Aguilar by another technical knockout. Rafael Limon came to challenge his WBA lightweight title but also lost by technical knockout. Julio Cesar Chavez took the WBC lightweight title from Jose Luiz Ramirez, making him a boxing star with the lightweight belts (WBC and WBA).
 
Then, Julio Cesar Chavez finally decided to give up the two world boxing title to pursue the super lightweight division.
 
Chavez fought again with Roger Mayweather. He won the match and took the WBC super lightweight title. Chavez fought other boxing stars in this particular division including Alberto de las Mercedes Cortes and Sammy Fuentes.
 
Julio Cesar Chavez’s other remarkable boxing matches include his fight against Meldrick Taylor, Hector Camacho, Greg Haugen and Pernell Whitaker. He fought against Oscar de La Hoya in the year 1996. His last match was against Grover Wiley in the year 2005.
