
Julio Cesar Chavez is a Mexican boxing star legend. He was born in Sonora, Mexico on July 12, 1962. Like other boxing stars, Chavez came from a poor family. He has four brothers and 5 sisters. His father was a railroad worker and his mother did chores like washing and ironing clothes to earn money. The family stayed in an old railroad car. This was what inspired Julio Cesar Chavez to excel in his boxing career.
He started his professional boxing career at the age of 17. He had a memorable fight against Miguel Ruiz in 1981, where Ruiz was first proclaimed as the winner. After further deliberation, the boxing commission finally declared Chavez as the winner. Ruiz was his 12th contender.
The very first world boxing title that he attained was the WBC super featherweight title. He got the title from Mario Martinez on September 13, 1984. Their match was held at the Grand Olympic Auditorium in California. He was able to defend the WBC super featherweight title with a match against Ruben Castillo by a six round knockout on 1985.
Julio Cesar Chavez also defeated boxing stars like Roger Mayweather, Rocky Lockridge, Juan Laporte and Francisco Tomas Da Cruz from 1985 to 1987. He was able to defend the world title he got from Mario Martinez nine times.
At the end of the year 1987, boxing star Julio Cesar Chavez decided to pursue the lightweight division. The boxer who had the WBA lightweight title was Edwin Rosario of Puerto Rico. It was a tough match for Chavez, but he succeeded and won by technical knockout during the eleventh round of the match. The results showed that Chavez made majority of the powerful punches towards his contender. He became the WBA lightweight champion.
The following year, he had a match won against Rodolfo Aguilar by another technical knockout. Rafael Limon came to challenge his WBA lightweight title but also lost by technical knockout. Julio Cesar Chavez took the WBC lightweight title from Jose Luiz Ramirez, making him a boxing star with the lightweight belts (WBC and WBA).
Then, Julio Cesar Chavez finally decided to give up the two world boxing title to pursue the super lightweight division.
Chavez fought again with Roger Mayweather. He won the match and took the WBC super lightweight title. Chavez fought other boxing stars in this particular division including Alberto de las Mercedes Cortes and Sammy Fuentes.
Julio Cesar Chavez’s other remarkable boxing matches include his fight against Meldrick Taylor, Hector Camacho, Greg Haugen and Pernell Whitaker. He fought against Oscar de La Hoya in the year 1996. His last match was against Grover Wiley in the year 2005.
